One of the key elements of the data life cycle is people. Defining roles and responsibilities for data management is essential to executing a data strategy.

CDO (Chief Data Officer): Assumes full responsibility of the data strategy and establishes policies, criteria, and processes.

Data Governance Office: Responsible for ensuring compliance with the strategy, policies, criteria and processes, as well as maintains alignment with all business departments.

Citizen Data Scientist: In charge of generating both data and business models based on predictive or prescriptive analysis. The role is a hybrid between a Data Scientist and a Business Analyst.

Data Owner: An expert who needs to correctly manage the data they’re responsible for.

Data Steward: Responsible for implementing policies, criteria, and processes based on the Data Governance strategy in the areas they’ve been assigned.

Data Architect: Ensures that the definition, quality, and security of data in applications are consistent. They are also responsible for advising Data Owners and Data Stewards as well as aligning with IT on decisions

Support Roles: Assists in Data Governance as a specialized “Security” team or an IT team
