The Gilbert Police Department (PD) stands out as one of the first police departments to publicly share their data, setting a benchmark for other municipalities. Through a strategic partnership with SDG Group, Gilbert PD has launched a series of publicly available dashboards hosted on Microsoft Power BI. This initiative allows the community to access the same information the police department uses to monitor crime trends, allocate resources, and plan for future community needs. In this article, we’ll cover the “Part 1 Crimes” dashboard that SDG Group's data, analytics, and AI experts developed.
This dashboard presents six key metrics that analyze Part 1 crimes, categorized into violent crimes (including aggravated assault, criminal homicide, rape, and robbery) and property crimes (such as residential and commercial burglaries, theft, and motor vehicle theft). These metrics are:
Users can compare month-to-month Part 1 crime data dating back to March 2022. Additionally, historical crime rates for the past five years provide a reference point, showcasing trends and helping to contextualize current data.
The initiative to share this dashboard publicly underscores Gilbert PD’s commitment to transparency and community safety. As Gilbert PD continues to monitor and analyze Part 1 Crime data, the insights gained will be instrumental in making informed decisions that enhance the safety and well-being of all residents.
